Ski touring in Taurus Mountains<\/strong><\/p>\n

Violent eruptions<\/strong> of the volcanoes Erciyes and Hasan three million years ago covered the surrounding plateau with tuff. From this brittle rock, the wind and rain have eroded Cappadocia\u2019s spectacular, surrealist landscape of rock cones, capped pinnacles, and fretted ravines, in colours ranging from warm reds and golds to cool greens and greys. Cappadocia<\/a> is one of those rare regions in the world where the works of man blend unobtrusively into the landscape. Dwellings are known to have been hewn from the rock as far back as 400 B.C., when Xenophon mentioned them in his Anabasis<\/em>. During Byzantine times, chapels and monasteries were hollowed out of the rock, and their ochre-toned frescoes harmonise naturally with the surrounding terrain.<\/p>\n

Ski touring in Taurus Mountains<\/strong> offers a unique way to explore this historic and geologically rich region. On this ski expedition, you will have the opportunity to climb the volcanic mountains of central Anatolia and cross the Taurus from south to east. We will also ascend Mt. Embler<\/a> (3,723m) in the Alada\u011f region.<\/p>\n

Beyond the physical challenge, ski touring in Taurus Mountains<\/strong> provides an authentic cultural experience\u2014you will stay in the local habitats of small villages and share evenings with the warm and hospitable residents. Our recent group enjoyed the journey immensely, praising both the natural beauty and the connection with local life.<\/p>\n

How technical does it get ? How fit should I be ?<\/h4>\n

Skill level\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The slopes may have some short steep passages. You should be at ease with ski touring techniques and skiing on all types of snow. We may also ski on glacier terrain. You should master uphill kick turns without hesitation.<\/p>\n

Stamina level<\/strong><\/p>\n

Good physical condition is required, some uphill sections may have to be done on foot. Ascents and descents vary between 800 & 1000 metres per day. Depending on the chosen itinerary, there may be two outings per day. This allows those who want to pursue to do so and those who are tired to rest and relax.<\/p>\n

Beware, you’re not playing in the skatepark in your neighbourhood: even though you’re extremely keen, are craving to make first tracks in the powder snow, don’t forget that this trip is far away overseas, in remote areas and rescue services may be slow and often less well organised than in your home country. So keep cool and take it easy to fully enjoy…and please avoid a backflip without knowing what’s behind.<\/p>\n

For your comfort, a pair of Crocs is a good investment and is useful in a minibus, hotel rooms and so on.<\/p>\n
